Spiritual Children
It is such a blessing to have children. They are a heritage from the Lord. They are like arrows in the hand of a mighty man to be shot out into this world to accomplish God's will. It is a joy to see them born into the world and to see them grow up to be mature adults. The same things are true when we have spiritual children.
Paul wrote a letter to one of his disciples named Philemon. He was informing him of what had happened with one of his slaves who had escaped. (Philemon 10,11) He appealed to Philemon for his son, Onesimus, whom he fathered in his imprisonment. Onesimus was previously useless to Philemon, but he had become useful to Philemon and to Paul now that he was a believer. There are several truths for us to think about here.
Somehow Onesimus made his way to Paul while he was in prison, and Paul led him to the Lord. God can and does work through our trials to bring about his will and to produce fruit for His kingdom. We need to be ready to share the gospel with those around us, no matter what we are going through at that moment. God wants us to have as many spiritual children as possible. How many spiritual children do you have?
Each one of our spiritual children is a person who was changed from being "useless" spiritually into being a "useful" child of God. We, as spiritual parents, are not just to bring them to the Lord, but to help them grow in the Lord, so they can also have spiritual children and multiply the family of God. I don't believe we will be able to give any excuses for not having spiritual children when we stand before the Lord, so let's allow God to use us in that way.
