Achieving Great Gain
We live in a world where it seems that almost everyone is focused on getting rich. Many people think that if they can get enough money that everything will be good for them. Therefore, they want to pile up more money and possessions in a search for what we might call "great gain." The problem is that even if they achieve that kind of great gain, they will not be fulfilled and satisfied.
Actually, great gain comes from two very different aspects of our life. (I Timothy 6:6) Godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment. I dare say that this truth is the opposite of what most people think today. However, it is very true for a number of reasons.
Godliness is doing what God would do. It is doing the right thing at the right time and in the right way. Since God is all-wise, He always does the right thing to bring about the best results. If we are godly, we will do the same thing, and we will see the good results from all we do. This is true for our relationships, our finances, and our work.
However, to achieve the great gain, we must add contentment to our godliness. The reason for this is that if we are happy with what we have, even if we just have the basics of life, we will not be stressed to get more and more. We will have peace of mind. Therefore, contentment makes us feel more satisfied and fulfilled than ever before. When we add God's blessings for godliness to this, we have great gain in everything that matters in life.
