The Power of One

Sometimes all we need to complete an important task is one person. It could be that we need a talented man or a persistent lady. Maybe we are looking for just one wise person or one very hard worker. Whatever the need, we search, but we can't even find one person who matches the need. That is a sad situation.

God encountered that reality in Ezekiel's time, as everything was falling apart. (Ezekiel 20:30) God searched for a man among them who would build up a wall and stand in the gap before Him for the land , so that He would not destroy it; but He found no one. What a sad commentary on the state of God's people in Ezekiel's day, but it might be true today, too.

We are in the midst of a spiritual war against Satan and his demons. They have infected our country with all kinds of sins, so that the people are far, far from God in so many ways. God is having to punish our land because of all of those sins. That is not what God wants to do, but He is holy, so He has to punish sin.

Because of His great love, God wants to stop all of this destruction. The remedy is for God's people to pray and to seek His face and to turn from our wicked ways. Then, God will hear from heaven and forgive our sins and heal our land. (II Chronicles 7:14) I wonder if He has found any of us who are really praying in power to build up a wall against evil and stand in the gap, so God can stop pouring out His punishment? Let's decide today to be that one person and to be faithful to pray every day.
