My Sheep

The Bible is full of things that show us God's overwhelming love for us. It is so comforting to read these things and to think about having a place in the heart of God. One of the most comforting analogies for me is when God refers to us as "My sheep." Just take a moment to think about that. God is our Great Shepherd, and we are His sheep. He is with us to guide us and to make sure that we are secure in His care.

Ezekiel was given this message to give to the people of God. (Ezekiel 34:31) The Lord God spoke very lovingly to say, "As for you, My sheep, the sheep of My pasture, you are mankind, and I am your God." I pray we can all get this picture in our minds and hearts, so we feel the full effect of God's love and care for each of us, as His children.

God created everyone and all things, but we become very special to Him, when we accept Jesus as our personal Lord and Savior. At that instant we are placing ourselves under His Lordship, and God assumes the authority over our lives. The way He does that is to become our Shepherd. He takes the responsibility for our care and nourishment, physically and spiritually. He directs us, so that we never lose our way, as we follow Him.

We are the sheep of His pasture. Just imagine God's pasture. It is lush green grass for us to feast upon. He leads us from there to the still waters, and then, we lie down under His watchful eye to sleep in peace. These are the benefits of knowing Christ and being God's sheep. We are humans, but we have the God of the universe watching over us and loving us all of the time. This is truly the abundant life.
