The Importance of Worship Music

We do a lot of things to worship the Lord. We pray to Him, giving Him praise and thanks for who He is and what He does. We read His Word, and we preach the Word, so people can know the truth and be set free. We serve Him as an act of worship, showing His worth to us. However, let's never forget the importance music in worship.

The writer of Chronicles was inspired to tell us about the singers in the temple worship. (I Chronicles 9:33) The singers were heads of the fathers' households of the Levites, who lived in the chambers of the temple free of other duties, since they were engaged in their work day and night.  That sounds to me like they were pretty important to the Lord.

The members of the tribe of Levi were in charge of the worship in the Temple. The priests came from the family of Aaron, while all the other families in Levi's tribe had other responsibilities to help the priests. The Levites who were singers had a very special role. They were heads of the fathers' households, and they lived in the chambers of the temple.

If that wasn't enough of an honor, the singers were not given any other duties like the other Levites. They were free to engage in their work of doing the music for the worship in the temple day and night. That way they could be composing using, practicing with their instruments, and rehearsing the music at any time. They were always prepared to offer the right kind of music to worship God at any time.
