Set Apart for What?

Many people are living their lives without a meaningful purpose. They are drifting through life, trying to make ends meet financially and trying to experience as much pleasure as possible. That is a very shallow, unsatisfying way to live. I am afraid this can be said about many Christians, as well.

Aaron was Moses' brother. All of the priests of Israel came from Aaron's family. That was God's command. God had a very important purpose for their lives. (I Chronicles 23:13) Aaron was set apart to sanctify him as most holy, he and his sons forever, to burn incense before the Lord, to serve Him and bless in His name forever. This is a great outline for all believers today.

Every Christian is set apart for the Lord, sanctified to do His will, not to do things the way the world does them. In fact, we are all priests before the Lord now. We have direct access to God, so we can know His will and help others come to know Jesus, as well. Therefore, just like Aaron we should pursue the same purpose,

We should be living a life of prayer, which is what the incense being burned in the temple represented. We should be praying constantly for God's will to be done in our lives and in the lives of others. After all, without Him we can do nothing. Then, we should be serving the Lord, as He directs us, blessing others in His name forever. All of these things have eternal consequences, instead of simply living for the things of this world.
