Prophecy about Jesus
There are many prophecies in the Bible. It is one of God's ways of showing us all that He inspired the Bible, and He knows all things, past, present, and future. When we see a prophecy, we need to learn from it and see how it connects with the rest of the Bible. This is especially true of the prophecies about Jesus, our Lord.
Jacob gave a blessing to each of his sons, and his blessings were mixed with prophecies about what would happen to them or their descendants. Judah's blessing was very specific and special for us. (Genesis 49:10) God let Judah and everyone know that the kings of Israel would come from the tribe of Jacob. Finally, Shiloh would come and to Him would be the obedience of the peoples. There are several lessons for us here.
Jesus came from the tribe of Judah because He is the King of Kings, and because He was a descendant of David the greatest king of Israel. It was also this way because one day Christ will return and He will reign over the world from His throne in Jerusalem for 1,000 years. Yes, Jesus was the Savior, but He was also Prophet, Priest, and King.
Here Jesus is called by the name "Shiloh." Shiloh means peaceful or tranquil. Of course, Jesus is the Prince of Peace. He came that we might have peace with God through His sacrifice. He is our benevolent king who leads us in righteousness, so as the prophecy says here, people will obey Him and come to have eternal life, ready for heaven. This is a picture of Jesus 1,500 years before He came to be with us on this earth.
