Jesus, Our Passover Lamb

Everything God inspired to be written in the Old Testament points us to Jesus. Over and over again we read about how God will send us a Savior to deliver us, His Messiah, the Anointed One. We even read about His death for us in places like Psalm 22 and Isaiah 53. This is why the Jewish people should have recognized Jesus as their Lord and Savior when He came in His incarnation.

Another place where we read a clear message about Jesus coming for us is in the account of the Passover in Egypt. God gave them specific instructions that speak to us, as Christians. (Exodus 12:5,46) Each family was to choose a one year-old unblemished male lamb from the sheep or the goats to be killed and eaten. It was to be eaten in a single house, and none of the meat was to be taken out of the house, nor were they to break any bones of the lamb. Isn't that amazing?

Jesus was an unblemished male. He was born of the virgin Mary, and He never sinned. He was God and man, so His blood could be spilled to pay for our sins, the sins of the whole world. Then, when we trust Him as Lord, His blood is applied to our sins, so we are cleansed. We are pronounced righteous before the Lord forever.

However, we must trust Him completely, just like they ate all of the lamb that night. It is a personal decision each of us has to make. One thing that is remarkable in how it points us to Jesus as being our Lamb is the fact that they were to not break any of the bones of the Lamb. When Jesus died on the cross, they did not break any of His bones, as they normally would, to make sure He was dead. I pray this account will point you to Jesus if you have never trusted Him yourself.
