Grieving Well
Every person in this world experiences grief. Grief is not just a feeling. It is a process we go through when we lose a loved one or anyone or anything else that is very important to us. Yes, we go through all kinds of feelings like sadness and anger, but we also have questions, and we wonder about the "what ifs." It is important that we go through our grief well, letting the Lord guide us.
That was Paul's desire for the believers of his day and for us. (I Thessalonians 4:13) He told us all, as brothers and sisters in Christ, that he wanted to let us know what happens to the believers who have died, so we will not grieve like people who have no hope. Grief can very, very difficult without hope.
The Bible is clear that when we die, as believers, we go to be with the Lord. There is no waiting period. We enjoy His presence, and we are freed from any pain or sorrow of any kind. This should be a great comfort to all of us who lose someone close to us. Yes, we will miss them, but they are doing very well.
Then, we need to realize that one day we will be with the Lord and with them in heaven. We will have eternity to do God's will, worship the Lord, and interact with others in perfect love. When Jesus comes back for the Rapture, He will give all believers an eternal body, and we will know each other. That is our sure hope. It takes the sting out of death and out of our grieving. God is so good!
