Confidently Looking Forward

When we are thinking about the future, there are a lot of things that are uncertain. It is very difficult to have confidence in the economy or even in the security of our country. We hear so many theories about what will happen, and mostly they come from assumptions made by people. God doesn't want us to put our confidence in those things, but we are to be confident in Him.

Hebrews 11 tells us this over and over, giving examples of how believers have done this through the ages. (Hebrews 11:10) Abraham was confidently looking forward to a city with eternal foundations, a city designed and built by God.  That is how Abraham was trusting in God both in his every day life and in the future. We should do the same.

Our outlook on life makes a great difference in our peace and joy every day. If we are full of doubts and fears, we will not be able to enjoy the abundant life God wants us to have. However, if we have the outlook that this life and this world are temporary, so we are looking forward to something much better, we will be able to face whatever comes each day.

This world will crumble and fade away in God's timing. Our lives will come to an end at some point. We can be confident in these two facts. Therefore, we need to be looking forward to that eternal city God has built just for those who know Christ as Lord and Savior. He designed it just for us, and that is what we should focus on as we go through the temporary world in which we live now.
