Perfect Unity

 We live in such a broken and divided world right now. It is hard to see any way that all the people who hold opposite beliefs could ever be brought together to have unity. However, that is what our world needs. We need a unity of belief in the right things and the right way to live. God has a plan for this.

Jesus spoke to His Father in prayer before He went to the Cross for us. His prayer is very important for us to understand and to apply to our lives, as believers. (John 17:23) One of the things that Jesus said in this prayer was that He is in us, and the Father is in Him. He prayed for us to experience such perfect unity that the world would know that the Father sent the Son, and that the Father loves us as much as He loves Jesus.

Real unity is only possible between people who know the Lord Jesus and have fellowship with Him. As we draw near to the Lord, He teaches us truth. Then, all of us believe the same truth, and we are committed to living by that truth. When we live it out in the love of the Lord Jesus, the world around us sees this supernatural unity, and they are drawn to trust Jesus, too.

Therefore, the solution to the divisions in the world today is for us, as Christians, to live in the love of God fully and to experience this perfect unity Jesus is praying for us to have. For this to happen, we have to see how much the Father loves us and Jesus loves us, so that we can love each other with the same love. When that happens in a church, the world will take note and be drawn to that unity they don't see anywhere else.
