A Clear Conscience

Every one of us has a conscience. God has built it into every person. It is that little voice that tells us what we should do, or what we should not do. It doesn't always work right if we don't know the Lord and have it informed by the Holy Spirit, though. However, once we are saved, we should try to have a clear conscience all the time.

This is what Paul tried to do, since He knew a time of judgment was coming when we stand before the Lord. (Acts 24:16) He said that because of the reality of our resurrection, he always tried to maintain a clear conscience before God and all people. That is a great goal for every believer.

We have a clear conscience when we haven't done anything wrong. We haven't sinned against God. We can be confident that He is pleased with us, and we are ready to see Him face to face. If we do sin, we can still have a clear conscience, if we confess our sin to Him quickly and repent of doing it any more.

The same is true with our conscience and other people. We need to strive to do what is right toward others all of the time. If we fail, we need to go to them and make it right. We need to confess our sin to them and ask for forgiveness and restoration. Jesus made this clear that we must do this before we go to worship God. It is that important.
