Watch One Hour?

Sometimes an hour seems like only a few minutes. That is what happens when we are doing something we really enjoy. Other times, an hour seems like ages and ages. That is how it is when we are waiting in the waiting room to see the doctor. However, the main question I have for us today is, "Can we pray for an hour?"

That is what Jesus asked His disciples to do with Him in the garden of Gethsemane. (Mark 14:37) Then, He returned to His disciples and found them asleep. So Jesus said to Peter, "Simon, are you asleep? Couldn't you watch with Me even one hour?" It was a simple request, but Peter failed, but I am afraid many of us fail in this area, too.

I wonder how many of us pray for an hour on a regular basis? I don't think it is a very high percentage of Christians who do this. I am sure that some would say they are too busy. Others might confess that they wouldn't know what to talk to God about for an hour. However, others would just simply say they can't stay awake praying that long.

All of these things make the Lord very sad. We can watch a ball game for several hours. We can scroll through the Internet for an hour. What does it say about our relationship with Jesus if we can't talk with Him for any hour? What does it show about our dependence on God, if we don't pray for an hour about all of our needs and the needs of those we love? We need to do whatever it takes to pray for an hour on a regular basis and see how God blesses us and that time of prayer.
