One More Chance

I think we have all been to the point where said that that we would give someone or something one more chance before we stopped trying. It is when we get frustrated, but we know the right thing is not to give up yet. I think that impulse comes from God. He is the God of second chances, and He is also the God of one more chance.

Jesus told a parable about a gardener in this situation. (Luke 13:8,9) The gardener said let's give this fig tree one more chance. Leave it one more year, and I will give it special attention and plenty of fertilizer. If we get figs next year, fine. If not, then we can cut it down. This story ought to wake some of us up.

The Bible says that if we know Jesus as Lord and Savior, we will bear fruit. In fact, we will bear good fruit. If there is no fruit, we are not one of God's children. God is doing everything He can do to draw us to Jesus, and He is very patient, but there is a limit.

We do not want to get down to where we just have one more chance. God will give us special attention. He will speak to us and show Himself to us. He will give us all of the spiritual food we need to see that we need to accept Jesus. However, if we fail at that point, He may have to just cut us down. None of us knows when this could happen, so we need to trust Jesus today.
