What God Doesn't Enjoy
Some people have a very distorted view of God. They miss who He is all-together. They see God as an old man sitting on His throne in heaven taking delight in hurting people and punishing them for breaking His rules. Yes, God always punishes people for their sins, but He doesn't enjoy it, at all.
Jeremiah made sure the people of God knew this truth. (Lamentations 3:32-33) He told them that though God brings grief, He also shows compassion because of the greatness of His unfailing love. For He does not enjoy hurting people or causing them sorrow. I pray all of us will hear this loud and clear.
God's unfailing love is very great, because His very nature is love. God loves every single person made in His image. He wants us to experience the fullness of the abundant life in Christ. He knows that sin keeps us from that life, and He hates sin. He punishes us out of love to turn us away from our sins.
He doesn't enjoy hurting us or causing us sorrow, but He has a purpose for all He does to us and all He allows to happen to us. The purpose is for us to be like Jesus and to have the fullness of His joy in us. The hurt and the sorrow, as much as it hurts Him, is the only way to bring us to our senses, so we listen to Him and turn back to Him. Please, never forget this.
