Thanksgiving and Praise

I know I have written on the importance of thanksgiving and praise many times over the years. I don't mean to be redundant, but it is such an important truth, I just can't leave it out today. We are commanded  to worship the Lord by engaging in meaningful thanksgiving and praise for what He has done and for who He is.

The psalmist was well aware of this. (Psalm 100:4) The Lord inspired him to command the Israelites to enter the gates of the temple giving thanks to the Lord and to enter the courts of the temple giving God their praises. They were to always to give Him thanks and to praise His name. This is vital for our spiritual life, too.

The Bible is clear that our attitude should always be one of thankfulness. We are so needy, and God gives us so much that we must thank Him well. Our thanksgiving is expressing our gratitude for each of the things God does for us, whether great or small, because without Him we would have nothing.

Our praise is our recognition of who God is. We praise Him for all of His perfect attributes, such as His love, mercy, grace, righteousness, holiness, and power. There is nothing about God and His character that doesn't deserve our sincere praise. His praises should continuously be on our lips. When we do these two things, we are very pleasing to our Heavenly Father.
