My Soul Thirsts for God
Being thirsty very uncomfortable. Our mouth gets dry, and we may even feel weak from the lack of fluid in our system. Of course, if we get really dehydrated, it can be a life threatening condition. Therefore, we always want do do whatever it takes to stay hydrated physically. The same is true for our soul.
David was always given great insights into our spiritual condition as he heard from God. (Psalm 63:1) His declaration was that God was his God, and He earnestly sought for God. His soul thirsted for God in this parched and weary land where there is no water. Let's think about what he said.
When we get saved, we belong to God. He is our God and Heavenly Father. While we are here in this world, we need Him constantly to be with us and to nourish us. Therefore, we must earnestly seek Him on a daily basis, even an hourly basis. He is water for our soul. Without Him, we are very spiritually weak.
Our soul is our mind, will, and emotions. Our mind thirsts for God, so we know more about Him, and we can know Him better and better. Our will thirsts for Him, because we need His direction in what we choose in every situation of life. Our emotions need the water of God to make sure they are healthy feelings, not fleshly feelings. Yes, our soul thirsts for Him, and we are well off when we drink deeply of the Lord.
