How to Honor God

We honor other people all the time. We give them awards for their performance in sports or the arts. We recognize their service to the community or the church. We even honor our family members and friends by sending them meaningful cards with our sincere words of praise and thanks. However, how do we really honor God the way only He deserves to be honored?

I believe David got to the heart of honoring God. (Psalm 86:11) He asked God to teach him His ways, so that he could live according to God's truth. He called on God to grant him purity of heart, so that he could honor Him. Yes, it all boils down to how we live every day, not just what we say.

God's ways are higher than our ways. (Isaiah 55:8-9) God not only does the right thing in every situation, but He does it in the right way. Therefore, we can learn from His Word, but we really need to God, Himself, to teach us His ways, so that we can live according to His truth each day. He is the only One who can teach us His ways.

Then, we need a pure heart to really honor God. We need to have the right motivation for live for Him and have His attitude in all we do. That is why we need to ask Him to purify our heart. He is the only one who can cleanse us from all sins, so our heart is totally right with Him. Then, we will honor God in our actions and our attitude every day.
