Such a Horrible Crime
Every day we seem to hear about another horrible crime that is beyond what we thought would happen. It seems that our society is getting worse and worse. Of curse, most people in America are not believers, so we shouldn't expect them to be righteous. However, it is still hard to fathom the depth of sin's depravity.
In Israel during the time of the judges there was a Levite with a concubine. He went to an Israelite town called Gibeah where the men wanted to sexually assault him, but he gave them his concubine to abuse all night until she died. He was upset, but he was not much better than those men. (Judges 19:30) Everyone who saw that said it was such a horrible crime. Nothing like that had happened since Israel left Egypt. God wanted them to think about it and to decide that they were going to do, and who was going to speak up. Christians need to do that today.
The Israelites had a spiritual pride, so that they were prejudiced against non-Israelites. Some Christians do the same thing today about non-Christians. Also, we have our own sins like the Levite with his concubine. We are supposed to be the salt and light for our world, but we have lost our saltiness. We need to be examples of righteousness to our world
Times will get worse and worse until Jesus comes, but we must not be discouraged. We must continue to live and love like Jesus, so our dark world will see the light. Let's refuse to be overwhelmed by the horrible crimes. Let's be victorious Christians in a world that is controlled more and more by Satan and his forces of evil.
