Another Generation

A generation is all of the people born in the same 20 or 30 year period as we consider them collectively. Each generation tends to have their own characteristics based on their time in history and the situation in their culture. When it comes to Christianity each generation is different from the previous generation. However, one main thing to consider is what percentage of the generation are born again believers. That varies for different reasons.

Joshua led the people of Israel to follow the Lord and take over the land of Canaan. They were not fully obedient to drive out the people of the land. (Judges 2:10) So after Joshua's generation died, another generation grew up who did not acknowledge the Lord of remember the mighty things He had done for Israel. We are seeing the same type of changes now.

Christianity is always just one generation from extinction. Since each person must trust Christ to become a Christian, if parents fail to lead their children to the Lord, and if the church does not evangelize well, the percentage of Christians goes down and down. That is what is happening in America today. Only about 4% of the teenagers and young adults go to any church, much less are they born again.

This generational change has very serious effects on our society. We are seeing all types of lifestyles and beliefs that are contrary to God's Word. Our country is becoming more and more violent and immoral. We need a revival and an awakening, so the younger generations will come to the Lord and turn back to God's design for life and society. Please, pray for revival to come soon.
