Consulting the Lord

We should never make a decision without consulting the Lord. I mean never. There is no decision too small or too insignificant that we should make it on our own. God is always there, and He wants to help us in every way to know and do His will in His way. The only way we can do that consistently is to train ourselves to turn to the Lord for His direction first before we do anything else.

The leaders of Israel made a huge mistake when the Gibeonite representatives came to them asking for a peace treaty. They were commanded by God not to make peace with any of the people of Canaan but to destroy them. The Gibeonites brought old food and clothes to pretend to be from far away. (Joshua 9:14) So the Israelite leaders examined their food, but they did not consult with the Lord. They went ahead and made the treaty to make them slaves, because they were fooled. We can be fooled, too.

Sometimes, we make wrong decisions because others deceive us. However, God has all wisdom. He knows everything, so He can see through any lie or deception. That is why we must consult with Him before accepting what looks to be correct to us. God doesn't want us to get fooled and hurt.

Also, we can be led astray by our own fleshly desires and our wrong reasoning. That is why we must always pray and ask God to shine His light on us, so we can see the real truth and make the correct decision. God is faithful, and He will show us, if we will stop and breathe a prayer or engage in a season of prayer whatever is needed to hear from Him and do His will.
