Serve Only the Lord
There are many things and people that we can serve in our lives. Serving is a good thing. Even Jesus came to serve and not to be served. However, it is easy to get our service off track, too. Then, it can be a bad thing. We must make sure that we serve the Lord only, in that we do what He wants us to do first, and then, we only serve in other ways as He leads us. Then, all of our service will be honoring to God and helpful to us and others.
Moses made it very clear to the children of Israel. (Deuteronomy 13:4) He told them to serve only the Lord and fear Him alone. Obey His commands, listen to His voice, and cling to Him. If we will do that, our lives will be ordered correctly, and God will be able to lead us to be fruitful in all our service.
One of the easiest ways to get our service off track is to be self-serving. That means we only do what we want to do, and what we think benefits us. That can easily get in the way of serving and worshiping the Lord. If those things are not convenient for us, we just don't do them. We can make all kinds of excuses, but that is never right.
Instead, we must be set on doing what God says in His Word out of fear, or respect, for Him alone. In other words, God will be the Lord of our lives in all we do. Once we take that stand, we will obey His commands out of love and respect. We will listen to His voice, so we know what to do every step of the way. We will cling to Him, because He means more to us than anyone or anything else. I pray we all will get to that point in our lives and see how God blesses us.
