Your King is Coming
The inspiration of the Bible is amazing! God is so wise and powerful that He was able to lead the men who wrote the Bible by the Holy Spirit, so they were able to write in their own vocabulary and their own culture, but they wrote the exact words that He wanted them to write. The end result was the very Word of God. Because of this, it is without error, and as we understand it correctly, it always leads us in the right way. One of the things that shows us this is the fact that the Bible contains very specific prophecies about future events. There is no other way that this could have happened but the complete inspiration of the Bible. Zechariah gave us a great example of this truth. (Zechariah 9:9) He told the people of Jerusalem to rejoice greatly and to shout in triumph, because their King was coming. He would be righteous and victorious, humble and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. That is exactly what happened to begin the last week of Jesus' life here on earth.
This prophecy is amazing since it was hundreds of years before it happened. God showed the Prophet that Jesus was the King, not an earthly king, or else He would have ridden a big white horse and been accompanied by a huge army and many officials. Instead, Jesus was the Heavenly King of all, coming to save His people from their sins. He was righteous in that He never sinned as He lived here. He was victorious over Satan and all His enemies. They did not take His life, but He laid it down for us, to fulfill God's plan. He was so humble that He rode on a donkey, even the foal or colt of a donkey, at that. There would never be any other king who would enter Jerusalem like this, but Jesus did as He came to Jerusalem for His crucifixion. This prophecy is so exact in every detail, it shows us the accuracy of God's Word, and this is only one of several Messianic prophecies in Zechariah and many in the rest of the Old Testament. I hope this will help all of us believe the Bible as we should.
