Staying on the Lookout
I have never been in the military, but I appreciate everyone who serves our country in that way. I can't imagine what it would be like to be in combat with all of the dangers. I know in that situation the person in the guard post or on the lookout tower is very important. They must keep their eyes and ears open to hear or see what may be coming and be ready to respond. Habakkuk used that analogy for what he was doing. He had made several complaints to the Lord, because he did not see God working against the evil of his day. (Habakkuk 2:1) He said that he would be standing in his guard post and station himself in the lookout tower. Then, he would watch to see what the Lord would say to him and to know what he should reply about his complaint. I believe that is a good way for all of us to look at how we should live every day in order to hear from the Lord as we should.
God is eager to speak to us. He longs to show us what He desires for us to do. I wonder how many of us are really diligent about listening for the Lord? How much time do we spend in prayer listening for what the Lord will say to us. I am afraid many of us do all of the talking in our prayer and not much listening at all. I wonder how many of us are on the lookout for what God wants us to do and how we should respond to Him. Again, I believe too many of us just do what we think is best without seeking to see God's way. Then, we respond to God in the wrong way. That causes us to miss the right time and the right way to do God's will. It causes us to get into trouble because we miss seeing what God is doing, so we misunderstand and get upset. Let's all stop being too busy. Let's take to the guard post and the lookout tower every day, and give keen heed so we will hear the slightest thing God wants to say to us and know the smallest things He wants us to do. That will help our lives be so much better than they are without hearing from Him.
