God's Writing
I have heard a few people say that if God wants them to do something, He will have to send them an "engraved" message for them to believe it and do it. That is a pretty drastic requirement in order to know and do God's will. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for such a thing to happen today. However, it has happened, and that is very significant for us today. Moses went up Mt. Sinai to meet with God for forty days. While he was there God gave him two tablets of stone engraved on both sides with the 10 Commandments. (Exodus 32:15,16) When Moses turned to go down the mountain he took the tablets of the testimony in his hands. They were inscribed on both sides. The tablets were the work of God, and the writing was God's writing, engraved on the tablets. So, God did give us an engraved message, and we should be sure to do it well.
The 10 Commandments are the foundation of God's Law for us. They are timeless and eternal. They are absolute truth that never changes, no matter what people may say. Our lives will be enriched and blessed, if we apply ourselves to doing what God told Moses on Mt. Sinai. However, the same is true for the rest of the Bible, too. God did not write it with His finger, but He inspired the men who wrote it by His Holy Spirit. (II Timothy 3:16,17) They wrote the words of God in their own language and using their own vocabulary. God has preserved it for us so that we have the very words of God, His work, to lead us. It never changes, and it is profitable for us to show us what to believe and how to live in every situation of life. I pray we will all see the Bible in this way and take our obedience to it very seriously, just as if it was an engraved message from God.
