Being Consecrated

We do not use the word "consecrate" very much. In our everyday language we probably never use the term. It is strictly a religious word and even then, it is connected more with the Old Testament than with the New Testament. However, it should have a place in our personal vocabulary. It was important to the Lord, so it should be important for us. When God was telling Moses how to construct the tabernacle, He said He would consecrate a number of things. (Exodus 29:44) God consecrated the tent of meeting itself, as well as, the altar. Then, He consecrated Aaron and his sons to serve as priests. This shows how important it is to God, so it should be important for us, too.

When we talk about the Lord, we usually talk about making commitments to Him. That is OK, but it is not God's way. When we make a commitment, often we fail to keep our end of the deal. That grieves the Lord. Instead, we need to consecrate ourselves to the Lord. That means we must give ourselves to Him once and for all. Once we make that definite decision, God takes over to help us do His will. Then, we consecrate things to the Lord, too. We give Him our time, our talents, and our money. We set it aside for Him. Then, He takes it and uses it for His glory. I know it means a huge change in our lives, but it is worth it. It is God's way, and He will bless us as He blessed the priests in the Old Testament. I pray we will all take the step to consecrate ourselves and all that we have to the Lord.
