Worthy is the Lamb
In Revelation 5 Jesus is portrayed as a Lamb, who comes out from the side of the throne of God. This is such an awesome way to describe Jesus. In the Old Testament the Israelites were told to kill a lamb and spread the blood of the lamb on the doorposts and lintel of the houses where they were gathered for a meal. When they did that God promised them to protect them from the death of their firstborn. We call it the Passover and the Passover lamb. God protected His people because of their faith to do just what He said. Then, Jesus came to be born of the virgin Mary, so He could die and rise again to pay for our sins and to protect us from spiritual death. He died for us at the time of the Passover, so He is our Passover Lamb. When John saw this in heaven, he recorded for us the worship of the Lamb. (Revelation 5:11,12) He saw many angels around the throne and the living creatures and the elders. There were myriads of myriads and thousand of thousands of them. They were all saying with a loud voice, "Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and might and honor and glory and blessing." Yes, He is worthy, and we should worship Him in the same way today, as we prepare to worship Him before the throne of God.
Jesus is the Only One worthy of such worship. He left heaven for us because of His great love. He took on human flesh, so He could experience life as we know it and be able to relate to us experientially. Then, He gave His life on the cross to shed His blood as the only payment possibly able to remove our sins. He rose again to show His victory over sin, Satan, and death. Without Jesus, we are lost and without hope of ever having our sins forgiven and going to heaven. Therefore, He is worthy to receive our worship. He is worthy of power, riches, wisdom, might, honor, glory, and blessing from the Father and from us. Let's be determined to give Him all of these things every chance we get, and to worship Him from a thankful heart individually and in our corporate worship services. Worthy is the Lamb!
