Remember

The ability to retain knowledge in our memory is a great blessing from the Lord. I believe it is one of the ways God created us in His image. He designed that we start having memories from the time we are very young, and we continue for the rest of our life. This enables us to compare things that have happened and what we have learned at different times. In this way we can discern the right way to go according to God's will. We ought to thank God for our memory, and we should all do what we can to keep our memories sharp, contemplating on them deeply and often. That is the basis for the admonition given to us by the Lord through the psalmist. (Psalm 105:5) We are commanded to remember God's wonders and marvels, as well as, the judgments that have come from His mouth to us. This is one key to a blessed life.

Why is it important for us to remember God's wonders and marvels? It should strengthen our faith. Like the song they are playing on Christian radio conveys, God did great wonders in the past, so that shows us He can do them again today. When we read the Bible and see what God did then, we know He is still just as powerful and loving, so He can do them now. When we remember the marvelous things He has done in our own lives, that spurs us to continue to be hopeful for Him to do more of those things in our lives and the lives of others. Then, as we remember His judgments, we have His direction of what to believe and what to do that gives us a firm foundation for life's decisions and a basis for what we should do to obey Him fully. In both cases it is remembering that leads us in the right direction toward the blessings of God.
