Light and Gladness
We live in a very dark world where people walk in darkness, and that causes them all kinds of pain. There is not very much true gladness in people's hearts today, either. They are searching for happiness one experience at at time, and that doesn't produce real gladness of heart. I believe we all crave light and gladness, but sometimes we do not know how to receive them. The psalmist gave us a very good insight into how we get light and gladness. (Psalm 97:11) Both of these things must be grown in our hearts, and we have to have the right seeds planted for that to happen. Let's see what we can learn from this insight.
Light is shown like a seed for the righteous. What happens when we plant a seed? The seed grows into a plant, and the plant produces a crop which can be multiplied to feed many people. Therefore, when we get a little light from the Lord, we must grab it and allow it to be planted in our heart. When we do, we get more light until our life is full of God's light, so we see clearly His will and way for us. That first seed can come from His still small voice speaking to our heart or it can come from His Word. The key is for us to receive it by faith and act upon it, so it will grow. The same is true for gladness. It is sown like seed in the upright of heart. When we do God's will, because we follow what He tells us or what we read in His Word, the seed of gladness is planted in us. It grows so we have more and more gladness, as we obey what God is showing us. Therefore, if we take both of these things together, we see how we can live in an abundance of light and gladness. All we have to do is to listen to the Lord, read His Word, and do what we see God wants us to do. This leads to great light and gladness for us.
