Anxious Thoughts

Anxiety is a difficult problem for many of us. We have so many stressful things that happen in our lives that we have a lot of reasons to have anxious thoughts. Then, when those thoughts multiply, we compound the stress we feel. That is not a good way for us to live. We have to find the solution to our anxious thoughts, or we will be greatly hindered by them, and we will be miserable in our lives. That is not God's will for any of His children. The psalmist knew that, and he knew the solution to anxiety. (Psalm 94:14) He knew that when his anxious thoughts were multiplying that He could go to the Lord. Then, the consolations of God would be a delight to his soul to lift the anxiety away from his mind. That is a valuable lesson for all of us.

God's consolations are many, and they are very powerful to take away any harmful habits into which we might fall. The Holy Spirit is the Comforter sent from God to be with us, as believers, 24/7. That word means the one who comes along beside us to bear us up when we have a need or we can't make it on our own. He speaks peace to our hearts and points us to Jesus, our Lord and Savior. He never lets us forget that God is in control, and Jesus has paid for all of our sins, so we are complete in Christ. That truth should drive away many of our anxious thoughts. Also, the Spirit opens up the Word of God and uses it to console us when we need the leadership of the Lord. The Bible contains just what we need to hear in every circumstance of life. All of these consolations, plus others, are the reason God commands us not to worry. (Philippians 4:6-7) Instead of letting the anxious thoughts multiply, we should multiply our prayers. Then, we will see the Lord send His consolation in just the right way, so our anxiety is ended, and we live in real joy. That is my prayer for each of us.
