With All Your Heart

It is interesting to think about how we use the word "heart." Of course, the heart is one of the most important organs in our body. However, we often use it to mean something completely different from what it is. People have always seen a connection between our heart and our inner person. When we are anxious, our heart beats faster. When we fall in love, we have a feeling of joy in our inner being. When we are determined to do something, we assert ourselves from something deep inside of us. All of these things caused me to take notice when I read about King Hezekiah. (II Chronicles 31:21) The Bible is clear that when he began his service of the house of God in law and in command, he did it with all of his heart. When he served the Lord in that way, he prospered, too. What a testimony for all of us to follow.

What does God have for you to do in this life? Whatever He has for us, we do not want to do it half-way. After all this is what we are doing to serve our Lord. Jesus went all the way to the cross for us. He suffered and died for us, giving Himself fully for our atonement. Should we give Him any less? I don't think so. God is watching. If we do what He has for us with all of our heart, He will prosper us and what we do, like He did Hezekiah. When we realize that our heart and our soul are the same thing. They are both used interchangeably to represent our inner person, then we know we have to serve the Lord with all of our mind, will, and emotions. We should use all of the intellect God has given us to fully accomplish His work. We should decide to resist all obstacles and get it done with His help, no matter what happens. Also, we should do it passionately, engaging every emotion in a positive way for Him. Then, He will prosper us, because He loves to see us pursue His service with all our heart.
