Godly Mentors
We all need godly mentors to help us navigate life in the will of the Lord. These mentors encourage us. They pray with us and for us. They teach us what they have already learned, and they keep us from making mistakes which we can't see in advance. Jehoiada the priest was a godly mentor to Joash, the king of Judah, when he began to reign at seven years of age. (II Chronicles 24:1,2) He was instrumental in Joash becoming the king, in his protection, and in directing him in the ways of God. Joash did what was right in the sight of the Lord all the days of Jehoiada. I pray we will hear from the Lord on this and find the godly mentor God has for us, so we can do God's will fully.
Life is a maturing process. When we are younger, we fail to see the truth and reality as we should, because we have not had the experience or teaching we need to see these things. Therefore, we are much more likely to make bad choices and to fall into sin. That is why we need a godly mentor. That person is a person with whom we can bond. They love us and want what is best for us, unselfishly. They take time to meet with us and to know us, so they can give godly counsel and encouragement. They hold us accountable for making right choices and following through on those choices. I pray that all of us will make it a point to pray for God to give us a godly mentor, and we will begin that relationship which will empower us to serve the Lord well for a long time.
