The Keys to Righteousness

What does it take to be righteous? That is a very important question for all of us. Of course, the only way for any of us, as sinners, to be righteous is to trust Jesus as our Lord and Savior. Then, He pronounces us righteous before the Father. He gives us His righteousness, after taking our sins upon Him. However, then we are to live a righteous life, too. That takes trusting the Lord and making an effort to do His will in every way. Job was a great example of this kind of righteousness. (Job 1:1) He lived in the land of Uz about 2,200 BC. He was blameless, upright, fearing God, and turning away from evil. I believe those are still the keys to righteousness for us today.

To be blameless means to live in such a way that no one can make a credible charge against us that we have acted wrongly. Of course, we all sin, at times, but we can still be righteous, if we confess our sins and repent of them. That way everyone sees that we have done the right thing about our sin. Then, we must be upright. That means to do what God says is right. His Word tells us all of these things, so we have to obey God's Word, no matter the consequences to be upright. We must be fearing God. This is that we will have a healthy respect for God and reverence Him, since we love Him, and we know His wrath against sin is terrible. This keeps us from sin, because of this healthy fear of our Holy God. Finally, we must be turning way from evil. We must not see how close we can get to do the wrong things without actually doing them. We must run the other way from any type of sin. I believe if we will do these four things, the keys to righteousness, that we will live a life pleasing to God, like Job did, and like our Lord Jesus desires to see us live and be like Him.
