The Inspiration of the Bible
One of the pivotal doctrines of Christianity is the inspiration of the Bible. Unfortunately, fewer and fewer people understand it or believe it. That doesn't make it any less a reality. Many people have questions about how God accomplished this miracle. It is amazing, and it is something we will never fully comprehend, because we can't grasp the ways of God. However, David gave us an insight that helps us see how God did this. (II Samuel 23:1,2) David was the man God raised on high in the eyes of the people of Israel. He was anointed by the God of Jacob, and he was the sweet psalmist of Israel. The Spirit of the Lord spoke by David and God's Word was on his tongue. In other words David was aware of God using him to speak forth His words, whether he was singing a song God gave him or writing down what God had said through him. That makes inspiration a very personal process for us to grasp.
The Bible tells us that God used certain men, who were led by the Holy Spirit to write down the Bible. These men were from various times in history over a 1,500 year period. They lived in different cultures, and they spoke different languages. God was able to use their vocabulary and their personality to write His words for us. They were not like typewriters of computer printers. It was a dynamic personal process that was unique for each of the 40 plus writers. I am not sure all of them knew they were being used by God to speak His words, but we know some of them knew this. They actually realized the words of God were coming out of their mouths or flowing from their hands. God did this so we would have His perfect Word. God is the Author, and there is no error in it. When we understand the Bible, it will always lead us in the right direction, and it contains all we need to live for the Lord in this world and to know Jesus as our Lord and Savior to prepare us for Heaven. See what I mean! It is a miracle for which we should be very thankful and for which we should praise the Lord for His wisdom to get it to us in this very personal way.
