The Power of One
One life can make a huge difference in this world. Just think of all of the lives that have been saved by the polio vaccine. It saved so many lives that many of you are too young to appreciate what Jonas Salk did by creating it. Of course, we could add many names to the list of those who were just one person but what they did affected many others for good or for evil. However, Paul gave us the ultimate example of the power of one. (Romans 5:18) Adam did the wrong thing and his sin affected everyone who was born after him. His sinful nature infected everyone, so we were all spiritually dead in our sins. Then, Jesus came into the world to get us out of the sin and death. When He did the right thing, He not only got us out of sin and spiritual death, but He got us into life. Hallelujah!
God had to give us a chance to sin and disobey Him, or else our obedience would be meaningless. His desire is for us to love Him and obey Him from our own free will. The problem is that we all decide to sin at some point in our young lives, so that we willingly disobey God and fall short of His glory. (Romans 3:23) After that one sin, we are headed for eternal death, separated from God, and there is nothing we can do ourselves to reverse that. Jesus came to provide the one and only solution to the sin and death problem by dying once for all of the sins of the world and by rising again to show God's victory over sin and death. Now, when we trust Him in His act of righteousness that paid for our sins, He gives us the gift of forgiveness and salvation. More than that He gives us life, eternal, abundant life. God's plan was so perfect, beginning with Adam and continuing through sending Jesus. Let's trust Jesus and help as many others as possible do the same.
