Sheer Silliness or Perfect Sense
I believe we have all seen that our country and our world are very divided over Christianity. There doesn't seem to be much middle ground. People either understand the basic message of Christianity or they are very opposed to it, and they do not believe any of it. In fact, lately the trend is to mock Christians and our beliefs, instead of taking us seriously. Paul saw the same thing in his day. He told the believers at Corinth why this happened. (I Corinthians 1:18) The reality is that the Message of the Cross is sheer silliness to those hellbent on destruction, but it makes perfect sense to those who are on the way of salvation. I'm sure we all know people on both sides of this divide. What do we need to do?
As believers, we need to make sure that we share the Message of the Cross in a very clear, understandable way. I am afraid some people have never heard the Gospel explained to them in a way that they could grasp easily. We should not use church words or theological words, but we should use everyday language. Then, we should be constantly and sincerely praying for God to touch their hearts and draw them to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Then, the Holy Spirit will convict them of sin, righteousness, and judgment, so they will be able to incline their hearts to the Lord. Once they put their trust in Jesus, it will all make perfect sense to them. However, without the Holy Spirit to enlighten their spiritual eyes, it will be sheer silliness.
I pray that each of us will be very honest with ourselves about this. If you think that the Cross of Jesus is a myth, or you don't think there is any way that the death of Jesus could pay for our sins and save us, then please incline your heart to the Lord and His Word. Read the Bible, pray, and ask God to show you the truth. He will do it. Then, put your trust in Jesus. Suddenly, it will all make perfect sense. What a blessing of God to see the Message of the Cross clearly!
