The Fruit of Discipline
Discipline is a good thing. Of course, there are at least two kinds of discipline. There is the kind when we discipline ourselves to do something like get in shape or study more. Then, there is the kind of discipline imposed on us by someone else, even God. Neither of them seem to be enjoyable in the beginning, especially when we are disciplined by someone else. However, the fruit of being disciplined is the peaceful fruit of righteousness which has many rewards. (Hebrews 12:11) I hope we all can see this truth clearly.
Whatever it takes to get us to be motivated to pursue righteousness is worth it. The righteous life is a happy, fulfilled life that brings God's pleasure upon us. Therefore, we should welcome the pain of discipline as a positive thing for our life. We should cultivate self-discipline and always be committed to learning from imposed discipline. Then, when we look back we will be able to see the peace, joy, and self-control that have been developed for our good and God's glory. That makes it all worth while.
