Men Spoke from God

The Bible is a wondrous miracle. When we read it, we marvel at the wisdom and love that flows from its pages, as well as, the righteous anger and judgment of God against sin. It is amazing how all 66 books fit together so well. It is obvious that it is no ordinary compilation of books. The prophecies always come true. Archaeologists have confirmed the veracity of the names and places of the historical accounts. There is such agreement between the books, even though they were written over a 1,500 year period by about 40 different men. How did all of this happen? Peter tells us clearly. Those men did not speak for themselves, but they spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. (II Peter 1:20,21) Let's explore what Peter reveals to us about the Bible.

Many people, maybe most people, think the Bible was written by men who wrote what they wanted to write in the way they wanted to write it. Therefore, they just dismiss what it says as human knowledge that is not special in any particular way. They enjoy some passages they have heard over and over, but they feel no need to read it and understand it well. However, when we look closely, and we see what Peter told us, we must take another look. The Bible was not written by the will of any man. It was not and is not any man's interpretation of what God did. It is the complete truth about whatever it says, because the writers spoke from God. They were able to do this, because the Holy Spirit "carried" them along as they wrote. II Timothy 3:16,17 adds to this that the words were breathed into them. They were inspired to write the very words of God using their own vocabulary and cultural worldview. The result was that God is the author of all 66 books of the Bible. That is why were need to take every word seriously and study it to see all that it teaches and affirms to be the truth. It is God's special revelation that we all need to really know Christ and walk with Him. I pray we will all read it and see if what God told Peter is the truth or not. We will not be sure until we read it well.
