Not Paying Back Evil for Evil

Human nature is very strong. When someone attacks us in any way, our first thought is to attack them back. That is even true for believers, unless we are operating fully in the Spirit. It makes no sense, but we want to do it that way. Why would we do evil against someone, because the evil they did to us hurt us? Why would we insult them for hurting us with an insult? All we do is lower ourselves to their level, and we destroy any relationship with them we might have had. Also, it is a sin against God to act like in that way. That is why the Lord tells His children to react in a much different way. (I Peter 3:8,9) I pray we will all hear this and ask God to enable us to live out His commands by the power of the Holy Spirit.

God says that Christians are to be like-minded and sympathetic toward others. We should not want to hurt people, because we do not want to be hurt. We should feel sorry for people who are constantly hurting others, knowing they are troubled themselves. We are to be compassionate and humble, so that we do not react the wrong way when attacked, but we react with a blessing. Isn't that what the Lord would have us to do? He wants us to be a blessing to everyone we meet all of the time; that is our calling as Christians. If we do this, we will inherit a blessing ourselves.
