Trusting God's Promises

Caleb is a great example of a man of faith, who took God's promises very seriously. When he was sent into the land of Canaan by Moses to spy out part of it, he went to the Hill country near Hebron. It was filled with giants, called Anakim, and the cities very very strong and fortified. Since he came back full of faith encouraging the people to take the land, God promised to give him the land he spied out. Therefore, 45 years later Caleb gave a great testimony to God's faithfulness, and he asked to receive this land to conquer. (Joshua 14:11,12) I would hope that all of us, as believers, would do the same thing.

God was faithful to Caleb during the 40 years in the wilderness. His strength for battle and for daily tasks did not lessen. That was God's way of blessing him and showing him that He was going to keep His promise. That led Caleb to request the most difficult part of the land to conquer, even though he was 85 years old. Just think of how that must have encouraged the younger generation, as they prepared to take the rest of the land for their parts of the inheritance. Caleb did not fear the giants or the fortified cities, because of his faith and his belief that if God chose to help him, he could complete the task. The same is true for all of us. We need to give God credit for the ways He blesses us and sustains us over time. Then, we need to trust His promises, knowing that with His help all things are possible.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Joshua 15-17.
