A Blessed Nation

In Deuteronomy 28 God gave the Israelites all of the blessings and the curses which He was promising them. The blessings would come for their obedience, and the curses would come if they disobeyed God's commands. They were to rehearse these once they entered the land of Canaan so all of the people would be aware of what God would do for them or against them. I know these promises were made by God specifically to His people Israel. However, He started by telling them that if they obeyed, He would put them "far above all the nations of the earth." (Deuteronomy 28:1).  I believe this generally shows God's way of acting toward an obedient nation, even though some of the blessings and curses were only for Israel. That is why we need to hear what God said.

Our country will not be blessed because we have a strong economy and low unemployment. We will not be blessed by having a strong military and excellent security. I know these things are important, but history is littered with the wreckage of countries which majored on having those things. The blessings come from living by God's truth. He blesses any person or nation that applies His ways and does His will according to His Word. Our country will be thoroughly blessed if we turn to the Lord Jesus and follow the Bible as the inerrant Word of God, as we did for years after the founding Fathers set up our constitution. Please, join me in praying for such an awakening to occur. We need it badly, or we will experience more and more of the wrath of God.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Deuteronomy 29-31.
