The God Who Speaks
There should be no doubt that the One True God speaks to people. The Bible is filled with examples from the beginning to the end. Since He created us in His image, and He desires to have a personal relationship with each of us, He would need to speak to us and hear from us. One of the most amazing times that God spoke to His people was at Mt. Sinai when He gave the 10 Commandments. Moses described that occasion, when he gave them the commandments the second time. (Deuteronomy 5:22) I believe it has some things we need to hear today.
God speaks when He has something important to say to us. Therefore, when He speaks we need to listen to Him and obey what He says. (John 10:27) It may be a command or a promise that is for all believers like the 10 Commandments, or it could be something just for us, as individuals, like many instances in the Bible. Whatever God says is essential information. Also, God speaks clearly. His voice is loud enough for us to hear it and recognize what He is saying. He doesn't have any trouble getting our attention, either. If we have open hearts, He doesn't need to speak from a burning mountain or a burning bush, but He will draw our focus to Him. Finally, we need to remember what He says to us. We need to write it down, if it is something that He shows us personally. That way, we will not forget, just like having the 10 Commandments on the stone tablets. If we keep a journal, that is we a great way to record what He says to us from His Word and in our unhurried times with Him.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Deuteronomy 6-8.
