Imprint God's Words on Your Heart and Mind
Moses was very clear when he spoke to the Israelites about the words of God. They were to have them imprinted on their hearts and minds. (Deuteronomy 11:18,19) In a passage very similar to the Shema passage in Deuteronomy 6:4-9 here Moses explains how we can all do this. I believe this is of utmost importance for all believers. God would not have put so much emphasis on knowing His Word if it was not vital to our lives here in this world. Let's see just what he said.
I am sure you have seen people with small bracelets which contain the words of God or at least, remind them of the meaning of God's Word in some way. That way, every time they look down or they feel this bracelet, they think of God's Word. Also, the Jews even put them in little boxes and hung them by a leather cord, so they would be on their foreheads. They certainly could not forget them that way. However, something we all can do, is to talk about the Word of God all of the time. We should teach our children His Word, not just in family devotions, but as we sit at home and as we walk along the road. The Word of God should be on our minds all of the time, so that it becomes a regular part of our lives and vocabulary. We should read it in the morning and through the day, so that we get up thinking of His Word and we go to sleep doing the same thing. Then, the very words of God will be imprinted on our hearts and minds. They will lead us to do His will and to enjoy the benefits of His blessings. That is why He gave us His Word. Those who live out His Word are blessed in so many ways. It is the truth, and it shows us the best way to live.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Deuteronomy 12-14.
