Commissioned by God

Moses was an excellent leader for God's people. He was not perfect. He sinned by disobeying God's command to speak to the rock to bring forth water, instead of striking the rock as he had done before. God would not let Moses enter the Promised Land because of that sin. Therefore, as the time for Moses death came, and the time for the younger generation to enter the land was approaching, too, God told Moses to commission Joshua as the next leader of His people. (Numbers 27:22,23) What a huge assignment from God!

The truth is that God has commissioned every believer to fulfill some task for Him. It may pale in comparison to what Joshua was called on to accomplish, but it is just as important for us to fulfill our commission. God had prepared Joshua for this leadership role, and He has prepared us for whatever He has for us. In every case, we must trust the Lord and rely on Him to get us through every high and every low. The reality is that none of us are strong enough or wise enough to do God's will on our own. Each commission is challenging enough to cause us to get stronger as we depend on God's power to give us the victory. I pray that each of us will gladly receive our commission from the Lord and be diligent to see it to completion for His honor and glory.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Numbers 28-30.
