God's Wrath Against Those who Take Vengeance
The nation of Edom acted in vengeance against the nation of Judah, so God destroyed them completely. (Ezekiel 25:12,13) He sent the sword against them to kill every man and animal in Edom. This was partly because they attacked His people, the descendants of Abraham, and He promised to curse those who cursed his descendants, but it was also, because God hates for people to take revenge on other people. We need to learn this lesson.
When someone attacks us or hurts us, our flesh tells us to take revenge against them, The fleshly mind thinks that it will even things up, if we do to them what they did to us. Our flesh tells us that we should return evil for evil. However, in the end revenge never accomplishes anything. It makes things worse. That is why God has told us to leave the revenge to Him. (Romans 12:19,20) He is the only One who can truly know how to punish them in righteous judgment. He knows the motives and the actions. He is always completely fair, and it is His place to judge people. It is not our place to criticize others or to hurt them. We are to overcome evil with good. (Romans 12:21) Therefore, if we do not want the wrath of God to come against us for taking vengeance, we need to allow the Spirit to empower us to do God's will and leave the revenge to the Lord.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Ezekiel 26-28.
