God's Judgment and Our Repentance

Israel had a terrible problem with sin. The sons blamed their fathers for their sins, and sometimes the fathers blamed their sons. Ezekiel set them straight. He declared that God would hold each person responsible for his or her sins. There would be no passing the buck or escaping personal blame for sins. The people were warned by the prophet that one day God would judge every one of them according to his or her ways. The only remedy for a terrible judgment before the Lord God was to repent and to turn from all of their transgressions. If they did not do that iniquity would be their ruin. (Ezekiel 18:30) That verse is so applicable to our society today. We all need to hear it and share it.

No one else can be blamed for the sins we commit. Also, we can't blame our sins on poverty or other physical conditions we face. Each person has a choice of what he or she will do. We can all decide to repent and turn away from our transgressions. The word transgression simple denotes anything we know is going against God's rules or His Word. Today, people try not to accept the Bible, thinking they can get away with sin if they just ignore the Word. However, whatever we know, God is going to hold us accountable for, whether we agree with it or not. God is in control. We will stand before Him in a time of judgment. If we have not turned away from our sins and started to do the right things, instead of what is wrong, iniquity will be our ruin. I am not saying we are saved by works or repentance. We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. However, whether we know Jesus or not, we will be judged on whether we did what we were supposed to do or not. If we sinned, blaming it on others, making excuses, or otherwise choosing not to repent, we will suffer loss, even if we still get to heaven. (I Corinthians 3:10-15) I, for one, do not want to displease Jesus when I stand before Him in the judgment time.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Ezekiel 20:-22.
