In Returning and Rest, In Quietness and trust
God has the solution to the challenges and trials that we all face in life. It is not the solution we find in the popular self-help books or even many of the Christian "how to" books. His solution is fairly simple, and it is easy enough for any of us to implement into our lives. However, since it goes contrary to what we often hear and think, it may be a difficult process for us to adopt. That is what happened to Israel in the time of Isaiah, when the Lord gave them His solution for their troubles. (Isaiah 30:15) Let's see what the Lord told them and how it applies to where we are today in our lives.
God said to His people, "In returning and rest, you shall be saved." That is true in at least two ways. We are saved from our sins when we return to the Lord in repentance of our sins and rest in the finished work of Christ on the Cross for our forgiveness. Without repentance there is no salvation in Christ. Since sin is the problem, we must turn from it and return to the Lord and His way of salvation. Also, when we are being defeated in life by our enemies or just the stress of every day life, our deliverance will come by returning to the Lord and resting in Him, not in trying to work harder and trying to do things in our way. Have you tried returning and rest?
God said, "In quietness and trust shall be your strength." Are you weak spiritually and maybe, even physically weak? Then, you need to spend time in quietness before the Lord, listening to Him. Then, when He speaks, trust what He says to you in His Word and in your heart and simply do it. That is how we trust the Lord. We put feet to what He says. Have you tried quietness and trust?
Israel was given the solution to their woes, but they were unwilling to do these things. They ended up defeated and destroyed. Are we going to be willing to actually implement God's solution? No one can do it for us. We must decide to take Him at His Word.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Isaiah 31-33.
