God Hears Our Cries
Psalm 22 is a very significant psalm of David. He was inspired by the Holy Spirit to give us many facts of Jesus' death on the cross. He did this 1,000 years before Jesus was born. Now, that is amazing! The things that apply to Jesus being afflicted and crying out to the Father for help, do not just apply to Jesus. (Psalm 22:24) They apply to us when we are afflicted as well.
Jesus received the worst treatment and the worst death of any person in history. At one point, He asked God why He had forsaken Him. His suffering in physical pain was bad enough, but the spiritual anguish of the sins of the world being placed on Him was almost unbearable. However, this verse shows us that God had not turned His face from His Son. He heard His cry, and He came to His aid. If God understood the pain of Jesus and He responded to His cries, He can and does understand all of our afflictions. He loves us, as believers, with the love with which He loves Jesus. Therefore, we can be assured that God hears our cries of pain and knows our need for deliverance.
There is one more truth to add. Jesus still felt the pain, and God did not keep Him from dying, even though He heard Him. The reason He did not deliver Jesus from pain and death was that Jesus was bearing our sins and paying for them, so we could be saved. There was a purpose for the pain. The same can be true for us. He may not remove the pain, until it has fulfilled its purpose in our lives. That may mean that we die, though we asked to live. However, He delivers us by taking us to heaven where we will be for eternity with no pain, no sorrow, and no death. He still heard us, and He still delivered us perfectly.
Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 23-25.
