Cheer for the Soul

We all have cares and concerns. We are tempted to worry or to be afraid of what will happen, but God tells us not to worry about anything. So, how are we supposed to stop the worry and anxiety? The psalmist gave us a great way to have cheer in our soul, instead of worry. (Psalm 94:19) Let's consider what the Lord told us.

The psalmist had learned that whenever he experienced the cares of his heart and anxieties, he could go to the Lord for His consolations, and they would cheer his soul. In other words, God has the solution for every care, but we have to go to Him in prayer first. (Philippians 4:6,7) Then, when the Lord consoles us in His way, we experience joy, because He cheers us up. I like the fact, too, that He says, "Your consolations cheer my soul." Remember, our soul is our mind, our will, and our emotions. That pretty well covers all of the bases for worry and anxiety. God can console our minds by giving us a reasonable solution to the concern we have. He can console our will which wants to decide to do the wrong thing, instead of doing it His way. Also, His consolation works to cheer our emotions, which could be going in different directions at the same time. Isn't God's power amazing? We have to remember that and run to Him with every care of our hearts.

Tomorrow, I intend to read Psalms 95-97.
