Growing Strong Faith
Faith plays a huge factor in our lives, since we know that without faith it is impossible to please God. We also know from the Bible that when God sees faith it moves him to act according to His will on our behalf. Therefore, we should seek to grow in faith more and more, until we have a strong faith in the Lord, and we are able to trust Him for great things. The example of David and Goliath is a great teacher in the area of faith. David was able to go against the giant warrior Goliath, because he had trusted God in smaller things in the past. Trusting God in those things grew His faith, because he became assured that God is faithful. (I Samuel 17:37) That is why he could face Goliath with his sling and 5 stones, all the time being confident of victory.
David was the youngest of 8 brothers. He kept the sheep. As a shepherd he faced all types of trials that required him to trust the Lord. One time a lion attacked the sheep, and as a good shepherd, David had to protect the sheep. When he did, God gave him the ability to kill the lion. Then, God did the same thing when a bear attacked the flock. Each time David trusted the Lord his faith got stronger. Then, by the time he heard the Philistine taunt the army of God, he had strong enough faith to trust God for the ability to kill him, too. This shows us all that faith has to be exercised to grow. When we exercise faith in God for the little things, our faith grows until we can trust Him for greater things. If we fail to trust Him in the small things, our faith will remain weak, and we will not be able to please Him the way we should.
Tomorrow, I intend to read I Samuel 18-20.
